Downey
Downey is a quiet little city of 650 people nestled
below majestic Oxford Peak. They cherish their small town
atmosphere and welcome those who wish to visit, play, live, or
set up business. Downey's streets were built wide enough to turn
a six-hitch wagon and for the twice a year cattle drives that
went through town.
Exits 31 and 36 from I-15 will take you to the town of Downey,
then Downata Hot Springs, and Red Rock Pass, the site of the
natural dam that held Lake Bonneville.

Downata Hot Springs
offers swimming, water slides, a kids water playground
and a hot tub all heated by their natural, odorless hot
spring.
They have a big campground, bed & breakfast, and Indian
Teepees for your stay. Enjoy picnicking, horse shoes,
basketball, volleyball,
It's a great place for family
reunions. |

Visit Red Rock Pass just 5 miles south of Downey.
Approximately 15,000 years ago Lake Bonneville suddenly flooded a huge amount of
water to the north. These flood waters flowed over Red Rock Pass in southeastern
Idaho and continued westward across the Snake River Plain. The release of water
from Lake Bonneville was apparently caused by capture of the Bear River which
greatly increased the supply of water to the Bonneville Basin and then the
sudden erosion of the dam on the northern shoreline near Red Rock Pass.

Virtual Tour
The first weekend in August people come from miles around for the
old fashioned South Bannock County Fair. The rodeo, parade,
exhibits and livestock shows offer the opportunity to experience life in the
country first hand. Stay in one of the local campgrounds.
